Mostly English walnut, purpleheart, assorted dyed veneers, and four very small cabochons of malachite
If you have never watched the sun come up from a viewpoint near Emerald Bay, Lake Tahoe, then you have missed one of life’s great joys. There is often a very colorful change in colors as the sun makes its entrance. Perhaps John Muir said it best, “I’d rather be in the mountains thinking of God than in church thinking about the mountains.”
With this vessel I have experimented with a new technique (at least to me). I have laminated many layers of colorful veneers to create impressionist, very abstract graphics of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe. Only the edges of 100’s of veneer layers are visible. There are about 45 layers per inch in the laminations.
