The artist used several roses as part of his Winter Rose series which he collected one by one on the window sill after he was done. By the end of it, Volkov recounts how, like the roses, life’s moments are short-lived. Unlike the surety of daylight that never fails to return, the roses don’t reappear in full bloom.
While this may conjure feelings of sadness, it is with bittersweet nostalgia that one must remember life’s events. The artist offers a simple yet deep analogy of what life is all about. Remembrance is the sort of piece one would enjoy viewing at length when pondering the mysteries of life.
