“I dedicated this painting to Andrew Wyeth. Throughout the years, he has been the most profound singular influence on me as an artist and as a person. I have learned from him not only how to paint but how to see the world and how to understand myself. Unfortunately, we never met.
In this painting, you can see and hear an echo of Wyeth’s painting “Soaring”, which shows buzzards circling over a New England landscape. During his lifetime Andrew Wyeth went against the prevailing winds of fashion in the world of art and always remained faithful to his own true self. To me, more than anything else, this painting is about freedom.” – Alexander Volkov
The Marcus Ashley Gallery is home to some of the most eclectic works of art from local and international artists. It is also where visitors can find Alexander Volkov art to buy or view at leisure. Volkov is well-known for his naturalism art. His most powerful source of inspiration was artist Andrew Wyeth.
Into the Wild is a nod to Wyeth’s painting, Soaring. Volkov paints a buzzard in flight over a scattering of trees and a sparkling tributary. The artist captures the concept of being wild and free as the bird takes flight into the open skies. Using a palette of lush greens, shades of blue, and blushing pinks, Volkov conveys the emotion of this piece with grace, and one cannot help but feel the subtle yet significant grandeur of this piece.
Volkov’s work is a true testament to his craft of whipping up the perfect story and emotions. Into The Wind along with other works of the artist are available at the Marcus Ashley Gallery.
