“I grew up reading Mark Twain, Sir Walter Scott, Jules Verne, and Jack London. I have re-read The Seawolf several times. I have traveled with Thor Heyerdahl across the Southern Pacific and under the sea with Captain Nemo. This is the vision of the Ocean that I started to imagine then, when I was fourteen years old.” – a memory from Alexander Volkov
Marcus Ashley Gallery employs art consultants who are extremely knowledgeable and happy to share their knowledge of art and artists with guests. They answer questions and provide information on the famed artists and their works displayed in the showroom. These include Alexander Volkov art, beloved in art circles for its one-of-a-kind lyrical settings.
Such is Pacific Moon, a dramatic seascape fable on canvas that demonstrates Volkov’s genius at manipulating paint such that both the fierceness and the calm of the ocean are accurately captured. The whimsical panorama is the artist’s boyhood fantasy, with a sapphire sky shrouding a full moon above a cornucopia of rock formations. Volkov’s signature light beams through the clouds and onto the water’s surface in Pacific Moon. Jack London would have been extremely pleased.
