The Marcus Ashley Gallery maintains its mission of using art to educate, inspire, and encourage its community and visitors. The patrons combine their love, passion, and reverence for art to support a platform of conventional and unconventional works. A part of the gallery’s growing collection of contemporary exhibits includes Lyman Whitaker art. The sculptor creates incredible wind sculptures that act as catalysts of change. Whitaker aims to inspire others to rely on and consider sustainable solutions to support the environment through his pieces.
The existence of the fleur-de-lis symbol can be traced back to as early as the 12th century. Its appearance is usually ornamental and resembles a lily. From appearing on battle gear and stained glass windows in churches to noble seals and coins, the fleur-de-lis is a recurring symbol throughout history. In Whitaker’s Fleur-de-Lis, a crown of swirling petals rises from the axis to take the shape of a lily. The sculptor’s distinct craftsmanship and attention to detail are evident at a glance.
Whitaker’s wind sculptures are meant to be placed in natural settings, encouraging viewers to appreciate the beauty of their surroundings. Fleur-de-Lis will blend with a picturesque backdrop of seasonal blooms in an expansive outdoor location.
