“Coming into Albuquerque at sunset when the lights first begin to sparkle is an inspiring sight. God paints the desert sunset skies with such a glorious paintbrush.” – Charles Pabst
There’s no place quite like the Marcus Ashley Gallery to explore the best installments of Charles Pabst art, which has captivated the general public, private collectors, and art enthusiasts alike. Pabst’s work will leave you transfixed whether you view it online or in person.
Sandia Sunset captures a brilliant sunset over the Sandia Mountains that Pabst was fortunate to witness while on a trip to Albuquerque. Located towards the east side of the city in New Mexico, the rocky foothills and crest display a breathtaking show of color when the sun dips low. It’s why the word Sandia in Spanish translates to ‘watermelon.’ The mountains get their name from the pinkish hue of the granite peaks that diffuse the sloping foothills with an ethereal glow come sunset.
Pabst reproduces the lovely verdant landscape of desert sage, prickly pear, and cholla cacti. In the distance, yellow grass catches in the sunlight, appearing like gold dust scattered across the earth. The artist marries hues of mauve, lavender, and magenta with forest green and amber to do justice to the magnificence of a Sandia Sunset.
