“The Grand Canyon is an incredible subject matter for an artist. When President Teddy Roosevelt first viewed the canyon in 1903, he described it as ‘the most impressive piece of scenery I have ever looked at… It is beautiful and terrible and unearthly.” – Charles Pabst

The Marcus Ashley Gallery is a veritable storehouse of fine art. Tucked within the busy shopping district of Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe, it lends a refreshing yet couth distraction to tourists, and its relaxed atmosphere encourages visitors to take in the collections on display at leisure. The collections in this showroom, such as Charles Pabst art, are worth taking home.

Pabst created a ripple in the art world through his sweeping landscapes featuring the Grand Canyon, his favorite trope. In this piece entitled Canyon Magic, the reasons are apparent. The artist captures the dramatic effect of the Colorado River’s still waters embraced by the monumental geological wonder it created. A lustrous sun reflects against the rock walls and river surface in a well-executed antithesis of light and dark colors.

Canyon Magic, a Pabst masterpieces is on display at the Marcus Ashley Gallery, home to his most extensive body of work.
