A note from the artist-
When I first started this series with my Lion Profile, I was asked to do a Lion Portrait. I Had honestly not done a predatory animal yet. I had been doing small American animals and baby animals for the Collectable Plate industry and larger North American domestic as well as wild prey type animals. I was a young mother myself and felt as if I engaged the viewer by having the predatory animal look at the viewer, the way I treated the babies and domestic animals it would evoke fear in young children. I chose to do them in Profile like this for a long time. I have since discovered the kindness and gentleness in the eyes of my subject matter and have no problem producing a nonthreatening Bear or Wolf or Lion.
