A note from the artist-
”When I first started this piece, I was facing some personal challenges that were certain NOT to turn out right. As it progressed, we were actually hit by Hurricane Harvey. We were on a vacation in Connecticut as it approached our little town in Texas. All we could do was watch the weather channel at a local restaurant, as the VRBO we had rented had only “streaming TV”. We saw our office building that housed my husband’s Used Car business go under 8 feet of water for the river it stood mere blocks away from on national television surrounded by new friends. The meaning of the title of this piece became much more clear to me. Once we got back to La Grange, we dug in and started over, for we also owned the whole building and it was our rental income from several businesses. Family and friends had removed important things prior to the water’s arrival but strangers showed up to help rip out the whole interior. As we rebuilt (Thanks to several sales of large pieces of artwork) we were very thankful for all of that. I refocused my viewpoint while finishing this piece and decided instead of being a victim, I would choose to BECOME THE BEAR. I would take on the business of renewal like a mother grizzly bear and were back in the building better than new in four months. We had new renters and a new parking lot and lots of great modern amenities that would never have happened if not for the “disaster”. Art is my therapist!
