A note from the artist-
Yellowstone Park has afforded me many photos of majestic Old Bighorn Rams. I have done it in the Winter and in the Fall. They are always willing to stop a while for a photo opportunity. Actually, my best encounter was out of the park in Dubois WY, the Bighorn Sheep Capitol of the World, by their own declaration. I was visiting there with three other female wildlife artists and decided to go find a few in their fall pastures as they came down from Whiskey Mountain to over winter. We had driven far back towards the mountain on a rough gravel road and were out of cellphone range for sure. We thought about turning around but decided to go further. A lucky decision on our part as just around the hill were four younger rams. we stopped and they ignored up, jousting like schoolboys on the playground. They gave us quite a show including forehead and horn butts. They probably would not be able to reach the level of maturity this old man was for they were “fair game”.
