A note from the artist-
This was a lucky shot. They were not really nuzzling each other, just their heads passed one another at the proper time. Sometimes we can make something out of nothing, and it evokes an emotion. Giraffes do a lot of communicating with one another using their necks, I have since learned from our excellent guide in South Africa. I called him “our own personal Google” because he was a fount of knowledge. Giraffes do nuzzle noses but also whack each other with their necks in their fights. We have seen plenty of those as well, between two males over mating rights. They have some interesting mating techniques. This piece is a favorite of couples because of its gentleness that I was able to achieve.
