A note from the artist-
This piece was a commission work from photos a client had taken on their trip to Africa. I have not personally been able to see a mother and child in the wild. I have seen plenty of adult male and female lions in our many trips, but this was special for her as it should be. The artist still must choose what to leave in and what to take out when doing a commission from another’s photo. In this case I chose to focus on the interaction of the two animals and allow the grasses to become the background. The shadows from the grass on the resting cats became the way to create depth without hiding the moment captured here. Some “fudging” was entailed since I removed the grasses in the foreground, but I know hair growth and musculature well enough to “fake” the areas that were covered. What do you think?
