Lately, I have found myself doing pieces that I call “solitaires” or single subject.(In case you haven’t noticed, I use my work to diagnose myself! I keep in touch with me by noticing what work I am attracted to doing. It is therapy form.)These two huge buffalo pieces are a wish for the strength that I used to have before my surgery. The other works were about healing oneself, which can be done best alone and with time. The Cape Buffalo was a large male is from a photo given to my by one of my customers. Before George and I made our own trip to Africa, I was blessed with several good photographers who allowed me to use their own work as part of mine. On our trip to Kruger Park SA, we made a wrong turn that turned out to be phenomenal. We were in the middle of a breeding herd of 300 or more Cape Buffalo. They surrounded us and I too photos for an hour. What a thrill. I am sure many more will show up in scratchboards, but for right now I needed this particular guy to say what was on my mind.
