Gonsalves rarely appears at gallery shows, but when he does, he chooses to visit Marcus Ashley Gallery in scenic Lake Tahoe. On one such visit, he took a side trip down the coast of Malibu, California. As he sat on the beach, Gonsalves was struck by how the whitecaps evoked the snowy-peaked mountains of the Sierra Nevada. In the resulting painting, Aquatic Mountaineering, the modern master fuses the calm of the beach with the wonder of the mountains.
