If you’ve been hunting for exceptional exhibits that capture the essence of an artist’s imagination and craft, then do visit the Marcus Ashley Gallery. This is the perfect location to view and buy Michael Parkes art in Lake Tahoe. The gallery extends the same level of unrivaled service to visitors from around the world.
Stone lithography was first invented by Bavarian playwright Alois Senefelder around 1796. He discovered how to replicate his scripts by applying greasy crayons to limestone slabs. He could then print the scripts by applying rolled-on ink to the stones before transferring the text to sheets of paper. This genius method has been heavily adopted and perfected by Parkes, as seen in Beatrice Alone.
Parkes paints a lovely maiden in a black velveteen dress and poofy satin sleeves in this litho print. Several layers of ink capture the delicate features of the maiden and the rich tones that envelop her. A swan sits silently by her side, perhaps aware of her pensive mood and offering quiet solace. The maiden’s fiery red hair creates a lovely contrast against the monochromatic composition.
Beatrice Alone is the outcome of Parkes’ meticulous approach to the preliminary stages of his work before the final print is produced.
Print that is signed and numbered by the artist.
