A note from the artist:
I am very fortunate to live at Lake Tahoe, one of the most beautiful places in the US. Not far from my home is Emerald Bay, one of the most photographed locations in the US. Lake Tahoe has only one island, Fannette Island, and it sits in Emerald Bay. In the late 1920s, Lora Knight purchased a large portion of shoreline land including the island. 200 craftsmen, living on site, constructed Vikingsholm. Today, Lora Knight’s Viking castle is considered the finest example of Scandinavian architecture in North America. She also had a “teahouse” constructed on the island. Today, only a few stonewalls of the teahouse exists. Can you imagine a butler rowing you and your guests out to the island for afternoon tea? The castle is now part of Emerald Bay State Park and tours are conducted throughout the summer.
