“True love goes on and on forever, like the rising and the setting of the sun, It’s a light that never goes out” – Mackenzie Thorpe
In this Mackenzie Thorpe limited edition print for sale, several small, childlike figures are seated on huge heart shaped flowers, floating in the midst of a jungle. Each child is dressed in Thorpe’s signature dark duffle coat and large, sturdy shoes. They are all holding another, smaller heart that they are ready to give to the world as soon as they have a chance. The children are all drawn without faces as the viewer is meant to see himself in the image regardless of age, race, background or means. They represent any and every child who may not have much else to give, but they are ready to give their love.
Peaking through the lush green underbrush of the jungle are bright blue flowers. Thorpe utilizes hand made, pure pigment pastels in his work, providing a stunning range of color that is visible in this artwork. He expertly blends the pastels in his signature style, merging one form into the next. The fluffy storm clouds in the sky seem to part as the sun emerges from behind them, giving the image a sense of hope and positivity. Thorpe uses clouds in his artwork to represent struggles or challenges in life. No matter how difficult they may seem, they will come to an end and the sun will emerge again.
Thorpe believes that children are the ultimate source of love. As seen in this image, they sow the seeds of love and plant it at our feet. They nurture it and help it to grow throughout our lives. The majority of Thorpe’s art expresses love and hope, however, he does not shy away from the darkness that also exists in life. He tries to illustrate, as authentically as possible, the realness and grittiness of everyday struggles while providing a sense of hope on the horizon.
Mackenzie Thorpe has brought a unique style and unbridled passion to the artworld that touches people’s emotions. His much-loved work is rooted in authenticity and carries a universal message of hope that connects with people across cultures as he draws on the raw emotions of everyday life.
