“I can face the unknown, all the challenges to come, knowing you’re with me. My rock, my peace, my love.” – Mackenzie Thorpe

In this limited edition print for sale, Mackenzie Thorpe illustrates a central figure sitting alone on a rock in the middle of a body of water. The child is holding a small red heart and looking up into the sky with hope. Although the child has no face, his body language suggests that even though he is alone, he has hope and positivity for the future.

A few of the common themes in Thorpe’s work can be seen in this image. The child has no face as he is meant to relate with the viewer and represent any and every child, regardless of race, gender, or background. He’s wearing the dark, hooded duffle coat and sturdy big shoes that Thorpe uses to illustrate that he doesn’t have much or come from means. The vibrant red heart is instantly recognizable in Thorpe’s work and in this image provides a contrast with the otherwise dark color palette.

Thorpe draws significant inspiration from the landscapes in his town of Middlesbrough and the nearby areas. This beautiful landscape may be a scene familiar to him in North Yorkshire. The sky is dotted with stars that can only be seen when you get out of the city. In the foreground, several cattails blow in the breeze.

At first glance, this image feels somber, still and quiet as the figure sits in isolation. It is actually a representation of hope. It shows that even on the darkest days or when we feel most alone, we can still find love and joy. To appreciate the light in the world, we must also have an understanding of the darkness. Thorpe firmly believes that we must go through the hardships to be able to appreciate the joys in life. You need to understand the darkness to fully recognize the light

The breathtaking landscape in this image is very similar to what you will see in and around Lake Tahoe where Marcus Ashley Gallery is located. In addition to several Mackenzie Thorpe artworks for sale, Marcus Ashley Gallery exhibits over 40 of the most iconic artists of our time. The gallery has been locally owned and operated for 18 years, providing luxury customer service, as well as any recommendations for upcoming community events.
