“We had moved from London and found ourselves surrounded by some of the most beautiful landscapes you could ever imagine, giant skies, fast running rivers, waterfalls, castles and sheep. I was totally overwhelmed and inspired to draw and capture all that was around me.” – Mackenzie Thorpe

In this limited edition print for sale, Mackenzie Thorpe shows two figures with their backs to the viewer, leaning against a simple fence and looking out into the distance. The sky is a clear blue with fluffy white clouds and an outline of the moon can be seen in the center of the image. It appears that the figures are at the beach as the ground is sand colored and littered with shells or other items.

The two figures are dressed in plain, dark clothing and may be inspired by Thorpe’s own parents. The figure on the right wears a red head scarf, which contrasts with the light pastels of the landscape. The viewer catches the figures in an intimate moment as they pause to take in the beauty of their surroundings. Thorpe draws significant inspiration from the landscapes in his town of Middlesbrough and the nearby areas. This scenery, with the fence and light colored sand, may be inspired by a beach near Yorkshire.

This image reminds us to take a minute, pause, and enjoy the scenery. Everyday can be a Sunday if we take the time to rest and appreciate the beauty in our surroundings. These two figures may not have much, as indicated by their simple attire, but they have each other, their love, and their beautiful environment. The artwork has a feeling of hope, gratitude, and nostalgia.
