“The electricity follows the paint’s path to the edge of the glass. Then it goes into the ground. Why I don’t know. It’s one of those mysteries of science.” – Dave Archer

Dave Archer art graces the spacious walkways of the Marcus Ashley Gallery in Lake Tahoe. The artist’s work sits amidst some of the finest collections in the world. Archer knew he wanted to be an artist at the age of 14 when he took part in his first high school art competition. Decades later, his work now hangs in NASA and several galleries across cities such as New York, Japan, and Belgium.

In City Lights, Archer creates a primordial display of gaseous formations and celestial orbs. Swirls of paint settle across the glass, leaving behind unpredictable results that the artist later transforms into discernible subjects: Archer airbrushes or hand-paints the planets and tinier details to create a wholesome composition. Once the paint dries, he applies resin across the electric painting to bond the acrylic to the glass.

Archer’s paintings are displayed in reverse to provide a clear view from the front. City Lights will add an edgy twist to a room with a quirky or minimal aesthetic.
