When visitors stop by the Marcus Ashley Gallery, they’re immediately drawn to the Alexander Volkov art on display. The gallery is reputed for housing an enviable collection of fine art by some of the world’s greatest artists. As you glide through the walkways, you’ll come across the works of Michelangelo, Steve Barton, Boris Kramer, and Dr. Suess, to name a few.
Growing up in Russia, Volkov was used to a suburban landscape sans the rolling hills and meadows of the countryside. After moving to the United States, the Russian artist grew fond of rural America and its distinct facets.
Evensong captures the artist’s signature seasonal representation bathed in bluish-white snow and deep hues. The trees remain still in the cold as the last rays of sun call it a day. In the distance, an unpretentious Anglican church sits pretty against a snowy backdrop. You can almost hear the sweet strain of canticles and the murmur of evening prayers.
Volkov ignites a flurry of emotions while transporting viewers to an oasis of serenity. His ability to transform an ordinary scene into one of beauty is remarkable. The artist uses delicate brushstrokes and a dusk-inspired color palette to bring magic to this piece.
Evensong is available for sale at the Marcus Ashley Gallery. The canvas will also be framed on request.
