“We associate fall with the wonder and vibrancy of light shining through the golden foliage on a bright, sunny day. But there is also a subtle beauty to it, which you can see here, in the outline of these delicate Oriental Maple leaves against a muted rainy background.” – Alexander Volkov
The Marcus Ashley Gallery is a mammoth space tucked away in Heavenly Village, Lake Tahoe. This space sees visitors from all over the world who always leave with memorabilia. From the many works that visitors choose to take home, Alexander Volkov art is a recurring choice.
Volkov grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he studied physics at Leningrad State University. In 1989, the artist moved to the United States, where he matured into a career in art. Autumn Window is the artist’s take on acknowledging the existence of beauty within the gloom. It’s an idyllic piece for a cozy tavern, hotel, cafe, spa, or apartment.
The rich burnt orange maple leaves spring to life against the subdued backdrop: a gossamer of mist with barren trees and rain for company. Volkov animates this piece with the vibrancy of the autumn leaves. A pragmatic reminder perhaps that one can always find a ray of hope no matter how hopeless or grim the situation may be.
Autumn Window is an uplifting piece that soothes the mind, heart, and soul. This giclée on canvas can be viewed at or bought from the Marcus Ashley Gallery.
