A ski resort was developed on the bluffs just above the Missouri River, and being an avid skier, Volkov did not pass up the chance to dig his poles in its slopes one winter and capture a scene on canvas. The result was Snow Creek, a portrait of leafless trees by a small portion of the body of water not yet covered in frost. Set against a pale pink and baby blue sunset sky, the artist’s trademark interplay between light and dark is unmistakable. A couple of houses in the distance breathe life into the setting, softening the stark contrast of colors.
