“Full moons have their names, and the one in September is called “Harvest Moon.” I painted this scene a year before Michael Archangelo bought the property. Back then, it looked like it had seen better days, which was what attracted me to it. Now Michelangelo (as he calls himself) is meticulously restoring the barn and the house (not seen in the painting), which is known to be one of the oldest buildings in Holland Township, New Jersey, and is called Chelsea Forge Tavern.” – Alexander Volkov

From talk shows and artist sit-downs to collection unveilings and private art shows, the Marcus Ashley Gallery provides a wholesome experience for budding and seasoned collectors. This brick-and-mortar gallery also displays Alexander Volkov art, a brilliant collection of countryside-inspired work that highlights the artist’s craft.

Volkov paints as almost an afterthought since the story his work conjures holds more substance. Through his paintings, one can derive comfort, peace, and reassurance. In Harvest Moon, the artist reveals an archaic barn in a weathered state. The barn comes alive in the moonlight to perhaps give us a glimpse of its once glorious history. Its worn planks and floorboards have witnessed the footfalls of men and women laboring away from season to season. The artist captures the barn’s outdated yet arresting presence in the lap of wild shrubbery and flora.

Like many other works of the artist, Harvest Moon allows us to embrace the charm of old places and run-down structures. Give a room a generous dose of character by mounting this lovely piece on a bare wall.
