This is a peaceful piece, though just as alluring to the eye, as the viewer must look closely to understand what is taking place in “Still Waters”. Gonsalves uses the water to create parallel images: a boat floats silently on the glassy surface, as a pair of swans swim effortlessly near the shore. Then, in the foreground, a small group works together to create an illusory masterpiece in their own front yard. A new reflection is cast with every mirror panel that is laid, showing each person that their reality is truly a reflection of themselves and what they have built. This piece is a reminder of how every step we take brings us into the present moment, rounds out our existence and renders anew our unique version of reality.
